JAICKO has appeared in the 6th annual “WHO’S NEXT?” issue of New York’s urban entertainment magazine, PARLE MAGAZINE.
Here is an exert from their exclusive interview with JAICKO written by IMANIA KERRISON:
Parlé: What actually pushed you to want to make music into a career?
Jaicko: There were so many great people in the industry that inspired me, at the time I really liked Lil’ Bow Wow because I was young around the time he came out and he was rapping and doing his thing so I found that pretty cool. My Dad was also a major influence to me in so many ways just because he supported me the whole way and knew that this is what I wanted for my life. He was musically talented so I got a lot of ideas and creativity from him.Parlé: How did you go about putting yourself out there in the music industry and getting a record deal?
Jaicko: Again growing up my dad was a major music influence in my life. At the time he had his own band in a night-club in Barbados so he encouraged me with my music and got me a manager to help me build my craft. Along this journey I also created a big fan base at youth events just to get my music as much exposure as possible, especially over in Barbados and in the U.S. My manager worked really hard with me booking me gigs and he finally spoke to an A&R representative at Capitol Records and they signed me. “All my networking finally paid off.”Parlé: What kind of sound or music are you trying to create? What category or genre of music do you fit in?
Jaicko: I don’t exactly fit into an exact category, I want my music to be broad; my music will have a “Barbados Swag” to it and be like “Caribbean Infused Pop.”
Parlé: Name three of your favorite songs on your album?
Jaicko: Damn!! Just three I get to pick. (Laughs). 1. “Oh Yeah”… 2. “Can I”… 3. “Will You Be There”Parlé: What are those songs about and why are they special to you?
Jaicko: Well I like “Oh Yeah” because its my single and I heard it a million times. “Can I” is also my favorite because it shows my drive and passion and how all I wanted was just a chance to achieve and overcome all of my challenges and live my dream. “Will You” is my last favorite song on the album because it differentiates the phony from the fake people and lets me know who will be there when I’m truly down and out.

JAICKO recently performed one of his tracks, “PERFECT“, live on POPAWSOME.COM and here it is!
Here is a short exert from an interview JAICKO previously did with POPAWSOME.COM!
What is the most AWESOME…
Song you’ve ever written? – It’s a song called “Loose It”. It’s not on my album but it’s a song about having a really good relationship and not wanting to let it go. Maybe I’ll leak it one day.
Recipe you know by heart? – It’s called “Cook Up Rice”. It’s a Guyanese dish with rice, coconut milk, pork and chicken. It’s a delicacy that you can only have at my house.
Concert you’ve ever been to? – Fred Hammond. He’s a Gospel artist and his music really touched me. I’ll never forget it.
Date you’ve ever been on? – My first real date with my first real girlfriend. We went to the movies and had dinner. I don’t remember what we saw, I just remember being with her.
Website you visit each day? – PopAwesome.com of course!
Thing to do on a rainy day? – I love to cuddle up in bed and watch a good movie. It’s a great feeling!
CD in your car? – Jay-Z “The Blueprint 3”. It’s the first album since Michael Jackson’s Greatest Hits that I can listen all the way through.

JAICKO talks about RIHANNA, music and his relationship with his father!
Oooooh and look what I came across early this morning! …. Some exclusive behind-the-scenes footage of the making of JAICKO’s “OH YEAH”music video directed by none other than BENNY BOOM. Take a look:

Recently, Barbadian singer, JAICKO, hit up SINGERSROOM for an exclusive interview. Jaicko talks about everything from being compared to CHRIS BROWN to his own music, and what it is like coming from the same place as RIHANNA.
Here is the interview:
Singersroom: Before you signed with Capitol you had experienced immense success in Barbados. How long had you been pursuing music?
Jaicko: From the time I was nine years old I’ve been pursuing a career in music. When I was nine years old I started to take music more seriously, as all my dad’s side of the family were very musically inclined. So, I kind of followed on in their footsteps and continued on the family’s legacy.
Singersroom: I read that you originally were a rapper, what made you ultimately switch over to R&B?
Jaicko: Well I always knew I could sing, like back in those days you couldn’t be a rapper and a singer, the lines were so divided like if you were a rapper it wasn’t cool to be a singer; whereas now people are experimenting with different things. But back then I guess it was just a phase for me. But, I always knew I could sing but I just never really had enough confidence to really do it. Then eventually, I just grew up and really started to take it seriously, You know?
Singersroom: Does writing songs with your father, because you all are a song writing duo, limit the subject topics?
Jaicko: Not at all, because me and my dad we have that kind of relationship like, we’re like best friends. Even though I respect him as a father we still have that kind of relationship where we’re able to discuss a lot of things. Like, I talk to him about girls and stuff like that, so it’s very easy to be able to work with him like that. No problem.

In september 2009 earlier this year, singer/ songwriter JAICKO visited POP EATER for an interview where JAICKO talked about several topics including growing up as a teenager and some of his musical influences.
Here is a the interview:
Eight Questions With Jaicko:
Do you ever feel like you’re missing out on being a normal teenager, since you’ve been working on music for half of your life?
Well, it’s always been a part of me to do music, and I always felt I was able to do normal things. I went to school in Barbados. I was always able to do normal teenager stuff. I don’t feel as though I missed out on a lot. But now, definitely, things have changed. I’m not back home in Barbados, so I don’t get to see my friends every day, but it’s all for the better. If I was doing that, I couldn’t be doing this.Your bio says your album is “life through the eyes of a 17-year-old.” What exactly is this album focusing on?
I think it’s definitely life around me. Back home in Barbados, we watch TV and we see a lot of things happen. On my album I talk about girls, and the song ‘Can I’ expresses my personal experiences and my struggles and my life. So [it's] just life through the eyes of me.
